Heating Systems – Modern and Effective
We all need heating systems in our homes so that we remain protected against the chilly winter. With the chill of the year finally settling in, you must make sure that your systems are working and are in place. It may so happen that at times, even though you have the heaters on at home, you don’t really feel warm enough. This is because the traditional heaters only warm the air inside the house or rooms of your home. In order to be really warm and protected, you need much more than this.
History
Under floor heating is one of the latest revolutions in this sphere. These have been inspired from the historic Koreans, who used a system of underground passages under their homes for floor heating. These tunnels were kept heated with hot burning coals throughout the night. The concept behind this kind of underfloor heating is brilliant – the home is guaranteed to stay warm at all times, because it is being heated from the very base. The air above the floor of the home will automatically stay warm due to radiation.
Modern Systems
These days, the modern equivalents of the ancient methods are being used. Electric underfloor heating is one of the best ways to fight chilly winters in a very cost effective way. The underfloor heating systems consist of a system of metal pipes which can be laid on the floor or foundation of your home. Then, another layer of flooring is kept on top of the system of pipes. You can switch on the system by plugging a wire to a socket.
Cost Benefits
The electricity heats up the metal pipes, which in turn heat up the air within, and around them. Thus, the floor above gets heated as well, keeping the entire home warm. Electric under floor heating is a very cost efficient method. This is because it can be switched on only during the night, for a few hours, when the charges of electricity are low. The heated air will remain heated for a very long time, because there is no way by which the cold air can touch them.
